Retro Bowling Shirts

Okay, so there are people out there who not only want to be seen in bowling shirts but who want to be seen in retro bowling shirts.  What in the name of glory is a retro bowling shirt you may well ask?  And if you do ask this question rest assured you are not alone.  I know what vintage means and I know what a bowling shirt is but the part I don’t get for the life of me is why anyone would want to purchase and wear a vintage bowling shirt out of the house, or inside of it for that matter?

Well perhaps that’s unfair.  Vintage anything is actually quite cool nowadays.  Vintage suggests taste, culture and a flair for the unique.  Vintage almost assures you that no one else (perhaps quite happily) will be seen in quite the same outfit as you.  That said, where to find one of these colourful, boxy prizes?  There are several tried and true places where vintage clothing of any sort abounds.

1.    The internet is a wonderful resource for snagging yourself retro bowling shirts. Be careful when you hunt around the internet for anything vintage.  The fine print actually may state “the look of vintage” and that can be quite misleading.

2.    Ebay has an impressive display of approximately 241 matches for vintage bowling shirt, although as with any item you are in search of on Ebay, many of them don’t even qualify for this category. Shop carefully.

3.    Garage sales have been known to unearth unique items.  It may take an entire summer but you never know, you could get lucky and score one and for cheap too.

4.    Auctions – auctions are awesome because they always display vintage and used items.  That’s what auctions are for.  If you’re going to snag a vintage bowling shirt a clothing auction is your best bet.

5.    Rummage through your grandmother’s attic and see what you can find there.  She might have a 40-year-old bowling shirt and not even know about it.

6.    Used clothing and thrift stores such as Value Village, the Salvation Army and the Goodwill are other possibilities.  Don’t be sceptical about these places.  My sister once found a gorgeous little knit pink dress from the 1950’s with a matching bolero-style jacket.  It was in excellent shape and lined.  I’ve never seen anything so incredible for such a cheap price.  She paid $12.00 for the whole outfit!  Believe me when I say I just ate my heart out.  You’re only limited by your own imagination and if you have access to the internet you really have no excuse not to find yourself a retro bowling shirt.  Happy hunting!
