Vintage track jackets are characterized by ribbed cuffs and waistband with a zipper that goes all the way up to the stand-up collar. It is made of lightweight material that can be used for almost any type of weather. Another characteristic are two slanted pockets at the front which has piping and zipper.

Traditionally, a track jacket is one of the pieces of a two-piece tracksuit. It is used as a windbreaker when one is going to jog or exercise. To make it comfortable, they are oversized to allow free movement of the body. They usually come in solid colors except for the piping at the pocket and if it has an emblem. Some also has open eyelets located under the arms for cooling.

They are widely used in the sporting community like golf, athletics and sailing just to name a few. It became all the rage in the 1990s when rappers and the hip-hop community started wearing high-end track suits. Because of this, vintage track jackets became adaptable to a variety of styles. Its use has also become varied, like it can be used as a windbreaker, emblem jacket, exercise jacket, and even a pullover with classic track lines and collar. It has incorporated special pockets where gadgets like cell phones or mp3 players can be stored.

There is also a wide variety of materials that can be used for vintage track jackets. This includes casual cotton, comfy fleece, silk, satin or weatherproof nylon. It can also come in a different style like for contemporary track jackets where they are frequently custom-made for a more flattering and slimmer fit. It used to be part of a two-piece ensemble, but now it can be sold separately or it can still come with its matching pants.

Vintage track jackets can be worn by anybody but it has influenced mostly teenagers and young adults. It is made by different brands and is available in many colors. It has become a key part of the wardrobe that brings the whole outfit together. For people who live in the Bay area, the track jacket has become an important part of their wardrobe. They prefer wearing it because it is lightweight but helps keep them warm.

Vintage track jackets have been around for many years, and it is a part of American history already. But it has only made its major impact when early influences of hip-hop with rappers like LL Cool J and Run DMC started using them in the 1980s. Since then, Adidas and Puma started producing them; they have also inspired other brands to start making their own.

Okay, so there are people out there who not only want to be seen in bowling shirts but who want to be seen in retro bowling shirts. What in the name of glory is a retro bowling shirt you may well ask? And if you do ask this question rest assured you are not alone. I know what vintage means and I know what a bowling shirt is but the part I don’t get for the life of me is why anyone would want to purchase and wear a vintage bowling shirt out of the house, or inside of it for that matter?

Well perhaps that’s unfair. Vintage anything is actually quite cool nowadays. Vintage suggests taste, culture and a flair for the unique. Vintage almost assures you that no one else (perhaps quite happily) will be seen in quite the same outfit as you. That said, where to find one of these colourful, boxy prizes? There are several tried and true places where vintage clothing of any sort abounds.

1. The internet is a wonderful resource for snagging yourself retro bowling shirts. Be careful when you hunt around the internet for anything vintage. The fine print actually may state “the look of vintage” and that can be quite misleading.

2. Ebay has an impressive display of approximately 241 matches for vintage bowling shirt, although as with any item you are in search of on Ebay, many of them don’t even qualify for this category. Shop carefully.

3. Garage sales have been known to unearth unique items. It may take an entire summer but you never know, you could get lucky and score one and for cheap too.

4. Auctions – auctions are awesome because they always display vintage and used items. That’s what auctions are for. If you’re going to snag a vintage bowling shirt a clothing auction is your best bet.

5. Rummage through your grandmother’s attic and see what you can find there. She might have a 40-year-old bowling shirt and not even know about it.

6. Used clothing and thrift stores such as Value Village, the Salvation Army and the Goodwill are other possibilities. Don’t be skeptical about these places. My sister once found a gorgeous little knit pink dress from the 1950’s with a matching vintage leather coat. It was in excellent shape and lined. I’ve never seen anything so incredible for such a cheap price. She paid $12.00 for the whole outfit! Believe me when I say I just ate my heart out. You’re only limited by your own imagination and if you have access to the internet you really have no excuse not to find yourself a retro bowling shirt. Happy hunting!
