As soon as prom rolls around every girl graduating either from 8th grade or high school does exactly the same thing: she runs out to a retail store or a boutique and buys a brand new formal dress. There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Ive done it. All of my friends did it. But no one ever seems to think of the alternative. Why not go with vintage prom dresses instead?

With vintage prom dresses, you don't need to be armed with a purse full of money for your impending prom night. You may be lucky enough to find a dress as gorgeous as the one I found quite unexpectedly. Once I stumbled onto a gorgeous vintage little number. I wasn't actually looking for a dress. There was no occasion. Vintage is like that somehow.
Just as important as the vintage prom dress is the girl wearing it. Whatever your style, be it innocent 1950s girl next door or vampy vixen, your hair, makeup, and accessories as well as your unique personality all play a part in your unforgettable prom night. And don't forget your other all-too-important prom accessory: your date. The best way to ensure a good night for your high school prom is to get with a guy who acts as courteous and classy as he looks. You deserve royal treatment vintage queen!
High school proms are all about fashion, and designers nowadays are always trying to come up with the hottest designs for teenagers to make a big impression on this big day. One thing that many girls are doing now is to stand out from the crowd by wearing a vintage prom dress. Prom dresses in the 1950s were typically full length dresses, and were romantic and innocent. They often had cap sleeves, lace accents, and frilly frocks. Other gowns from the The 1950s and 1960s incorporated chiffon materials, full collars, intricate embroidery, and empire waists. These dresses are actually perfect for themed proms, such as movie-inspired ones, which are very fun. Girls can make their look more mature too by adding cheap vintage women''s clothing, jewelry and accessories as well.
You can usually get your dress altered to your size, so you can shop online for a size that's close to yours.
If you want to check out the Toronto, Ontario vintage prom dresses, here are some clothing stores you can check out:
1. Kensington Market – rather an odd place to look for clothes I admit yet I found the most adorable pair of pink and black tweed pumps there once for only $5.00. Quite unexpected and a lovely little find.
2. Vintage Clothing Trends– on Queen Street in Toronto, one of my favorites without a doubt. There are many different styles of dresses for women and girls. Evening/cocktail dresses are only one of the categories. There were two different vintage 1950s summer dresses that caught my eye in particular, pale yellow with a deeper yellow, satin waist band. A fabulous price too, in the $45.00 range. Another favorite of mine was a slinky, sexy, black Lee Jordan 1970s vintage dress with spaghetti straps and a slightly flared skirt. It was very slim fitting and made from polyester, an easy fabric to care for if ever there was one. It retailed for an incredible $28.00!
3. If you have a few hundred dollars to spare and are looking for a goth prom dress, check out Northboundleather in Toronto. This store specializes in, surprise, surprise, leather items that are high quality, stylish and gorgeous. Black leather dresses and separates such as corsets and mini-skirts are always available and very sexy. One of my favorites is a classy, full-length black ladies dress, tight bodice and long, flared leather skirt, SKU #6433, retailing at a reasonable $323.00. More stunning vintage prom dresses can be found at Dark Destiny Designs. Consider a red corset and a red, fun, flared skirt, absolutely adorable and red-hot on anyone!
